Oilers score twice late, defeat Capitals in shootout posted on 01/22/2015

Not since early November had the Edmonton Oilers won consecutive games.

On Tuesday, trailing by two goals with five minutes remaining in regulation, it seemed they would stumble into the All-Star break without that modest winning streak.

But the Oilers scored twice to tie it, and then defeated the Capitals 5-4 in a shootout for their second straight victory.

"We can definitely take some positives out of this," Oilers coach Todd Nelson said. "It was a good character win. The guys stuck with it, but there are also things we still have to work on. Our power play has to be better than it was tonight (1-for-6). We had plenty of opportunities to get back in the game. All in all I think there's a lot of room for improvement, but we're happy with the way the guys stuck with it."

Analysts Weigh in on Edmond Oilers Chances of Making it to the playoffs posted on 10/16/2014

Do the Oilers have any chance of making it to the playoffs? According to the former GM of Calgary flames, Craig Button, they do. Craig who is currently a broadcast journalist, feels that despite their false start they can recover the rest of the games and make it through the season.

However, a fellow commentator who they were analyzing the game together during the Oilers and Calgary flames game, differed with him. According to him, the Edmond oilers seem to have a good chance of recovering, but they have no chance of making it to the playoffs because even after they recover, they will still be a .500 team.

Talented Players

Both analysis have some level of merit. The Oilers are still a good team with a talented set of players such as Taylor hall. Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, David Perron and Benoit Pouliot. The group led by left winger Taylor hall, are among the best wingers in the league. This is one of their strength and this talent is complemented by others like Teddy Purcell and Nail Yakupov.
